1. Log into your cPanel.
2. Click on the Softaculous tool.
Within the navigation menu on the left side, look for the MediaWiki link.
3. Complete the install form.
Keep in mind the HTTP protocol (eg. http://www.example.com vs http://example.com, and if a SSL security certificate will be used). You can also email the installation details to your email address if you wish.
After you fill out the form and click the Install button, the software will be instantly installed on your web site ready for you to use.
NOTE: It is advised that you install your wiki in a directory folder. If you plan on using MediaWiki's Short URL feature, (see below you should name this folder something other than you intended directory because the short URL can not be named the same thing as the installation folder (eg. If you were running a wiki about movies, you might install the wiki at /moviewiki/ and name the Short URL /movies/).
Setting up Short URLs
1. Using the File Manager or FTP, add or edit the following settings in the LocalSettings.php file within the new Mediawiki installation folder:
$wgScriptPath = "/w"; # Physical path $wgArticlePath = "/wiki/$1"; # Virtual path. MUST BE DIFFERENT from $wgScriptPath
2. Create or edit the .htaccess file in your web root directory:
NOTE: replace /wiki with wherever the wiki was actually installed
RewriteRule ^/?wiki/(.*)$ /wiki/index.php?title=$1 [PT,L,QSA]
RewriteRule ^/?wiki/*$ /wiki/index.php [L,QSA]
RewriteRule ^/*$ /wiki/index.php [L,QSA]
See http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Short_URL for more information.
